# How do I read and compare AI answers in chatobserver?

> Open a prompt's answer history and inspect the original answer, analysis, sentiment highlights, and source evidence.

Open a prompt's results to read its collected answers. The answer view preserves the response content, while **Analysis** and **Evidence** help you investigate the brands, sentiment, and sources associated with it.

## Inspect a single answer

Check the platform, region, and collection date before interpreting the response. Read the full answer, including qualifications and comparisons, rather than relying only on the excerpt in a table.

Sentiment highlighting points to passages about brands. Use **Highlight other brands** to include competitor passages. A highlighted name and a positive or negative statement are different pieces of information: the surrounding sentence explains what the answer is saying.

Open the evidence to inspect citations. A cited page can support a specific statement without endorsing the brand mentioned alongside it.

## Compare answers over time

Use the history controls to move between collected answers for the same prompt. Keep the platform and region consistent when comparing dates. Note changes in:

* Whether your brand appears at all.
* Where it appears in an ordered recommendation.
* Which strengths, limitations, or audiences are associated with it.
* Which competitors and source pages appear.

AI answers can vary even when your prompt is unchanged. Look for a repeated pattern across relevant questions and dates before treating one response as a lasting change.

If the answer is present but its analysis is pending, return once analysis is complete. See [missing answers](/docs/troubleshooting/missing-answers), [sentiment](/docs/analysis/sentiment), and [citations](/docs/analysis/source-citations) for more specific checks.
